I’m just loving these podcasts. I have been a Dark Tower fan from its publication. I am such a Dark Tower nerd/geek that I actually get involved with your discussions and respond to you as if I was there. Overall, I am a traditionalist and refuse to go back and read the revised edition. I know Stephen King tried to clarify a lot of things by doing so, but I prefer the more raw version as the whole series is not just the story of Roland, but also of Stephen King as he developed as a writer throughout his life. As a Dark Tower, and Stephen King fanatic, I have always loved how the story of Roland and midworld actually comes out in so much of Stephen King’s work. When I was an undergraduate, I tried to get my philosophy professor to discuss Ka, Ka-tet, and Khef (to no avail). I wrote papers in my english composition classes about Stephen King and the philosophical underpinnings of Roland’s story. In particular, discussions of Roland as a “hero” on a “hero’s journey”. I think my composition professors began to hate my use of Roland as they did not feel Stephen King’s work merited the literary attention that I gave. I would have to say that my thoughts on Roland’s story has even influenced how I approach life. When I was younger, and I would sign my name to letters I had written, or notes that I wrote in people’s yearbooks, or any pernsonal note at all, my signature would always be followed by Ka, Ka-tet, and Khef.
Although I have not ever had the chance to palaver with anyone about the Dark Tower series in the detail that I would like, I am captivated by your podcast as it has revived thoughts about Roland that I had not about in years. Thanks for keeping the literary spirit of Roland’s story alive. I look forward to following your future podcasts.
If I may be so bold, I consider myself part of your Ka-tet.

Hi LaRoy! Thanks so much for the amazing comment! I am so happy you’re enjoying the show 🙂 I would actually love to hear a philosopher’s take on the Dark Tower! Roland is such a rich and mysterious anti-hero I’m totally interested in your take on him. One of the reasons I think I am so enamored of the series is how much it lends itself to interpretation and analysis (and probably a lot of projection on my part! LOL). So, even if your composition professors weren’t interested we definitely are :)… and of course you can be a part of our Ka-tet! – Rachel 🙂
